Celebrating 10 years’ activity in India, Brembo have announced that they’ll start working on building a new factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
In fact, 2018 marks an important phase in Brembo’s operation in India.
This move comes backed by the introduction of new safety regulations for two-wheelers by the Indian government, which require higher performance braking systems like CBS and ABS on small and big motorcycles.
According to new safety regulations in India, starting next month all new two-wheelers with an engine displacement below 125 cc need to have a combined braking system (CBS), while motorcycles with an engine above 125 cc need to have ABS installed from factory.
With this measure the Indian government plans to fight the death statistics, because motorcycles that have these type of features are a lot safer by maximizing braking control in an emergency situation.
Brembo Brakes India, a subsidiary of Brembo SpA, manufactures braking systems for motorcycles and operates the brands Brembo – for larger displacement motorcycles – and also the ByBre (By Brembo) brakes which are used on smaller motorcycles and already guaranteed more than 50% of market share.
The construction of the new factory in Chennai has already begun, and Brembo plans to invest a total of 9 million euros in 2018 in India.
Not only they’re building this new plant, which should be completed within a year from now, but Brembo also wants to expand the Chakan and Manesar factories. All this will allow Brembo to maximize the quality of their products, specifically the ByBre bake line, by having a closer collaboration with motorcycle manufacturers in these new or updated facilities.
