Miquel Gelabert did not just win in Calvi. He made a statement.

The Honda Montesa rider delivered two stunning performances on Sunday at the French TrialGP, seizing a double victory that redefined the championship landscape in the Trial2 class. With poise, control, and sharp decision-making, Gelabert surged to second overall in the standings and gave the title fight new energy heading into San Marino.

After a solid win on Saturday, the momentum was already swinging in his favour. But Sunday is where Gelabert made it count. From the opening section, the intensity of the course left no room for error. Gelabert responded with precision, notching eight clean rides and staying composed through technical terrain. The result was his first victory of the day and 20 valuable points in the championship.

That alone would have made for a successful weekend. But he wasn’t finished.

In the second race, Gelabert elevated his performance even further. Riding with confidence and fluency, he cleaned 11 zones and picked up just a single penalty on Zone 8. It was, by his own admission, the best performance of his season so far. That second win of the day locked in his overall triumph in Calvi and sent a clear message to championship leader Harry Hemingway — the gap is closing fast.

Gelabert now sits on 233 points, just 20 behind Hemingway, and his charge up the rankings puts Honda Montesa firmly in the title conversation. For a rider known for his smooth technique and mental toughness, this weekend confirmed he is not just participating in the championship — he is shaping it.

“It was a fantastic day,” Gelabert said. “I handled the pressure well, and I think I’m growing in this category. I enjoyed every zone I rode today and was able to take the win, which is very important for the championship.”

Team manager Carles Barneda echoed the sentiment, praising the rider’s execution and composure. “We knew we wanted both wins, but achieving them isn’t easy. Miquel rode very well. He handled the pressure and stayed focused through every section. Now we look to San Marino and keep working.”

The next stop for the Trial2 class is the San Marino TrialGP in Baldasserona, where the fight for the top spot will tighten once again. After Calvi, one thing is certain: Miquel Gelabert is no longer the underdog; he is a title threat.
