Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda) might have surprised everyone during the recent Jerez test session, held last week before all MotoGP riders and teams go into the awaited (and deserved) Winter break that will last until the end of January.
Even though he wasn’t the fastest rider on track, Marc Marquez ends the year on a high note, happy with the work done by the Repsol Honda team in preparation for next season. The reigning champion was still recovering from injury during the Jerez test session, but he still tested new ideas for 2019
“We’ve tried a lot of things and we’ve gathered a lot of information, especially on engine, frame, electronics and also tyres. We were using the medium and hard rear tyre that no one uses, but we tried it to understand how it works and to prepare to use it if we need it. We tested many different tyres and combinations”.
And as much as the engine or chassis setup is important, Marc Marquez also likes to highlight that Honda is working on a new aerodynamic package for the RC213V, but in this case the Spanish rider confirms that what the team had to test doesn’t make any difference.
So, what about his relationship with new teammate Jorge Lorenzo?
“We have met during the morning and we spoke a bit, maybe two minutes. He says he is still adapting to the Honda, which is a different bike, and that’s normal. But I’m happy, because at least we agree on what the bike needs to improve”.
During the Winter break, Marc Marquez will have an operation on his injured shoulder and is expected to be in full fitness for the first official MotoGP tests in 2019.
