Electric motorcycle maker Zero Motorcycles is introducing a new sales strategy designed to make buying its lightweight off-road electric motorcycles faster and more convenient. The company has launched a direct-to-consumer residential drop-ship program for its X Line models, allowing customers to receive their motorcycles delivered directly to their homes.

The program is currently available in the United States and focuses on the brand’s compact off-road machines, the Zero XB and Zero XE.

Dealer-Supported, Home Delivery

Under the new system, customers can purchase the XB or XE through an authorized Zero dealer. Instead of picking up the assembled motorcycle from the showroom, the bike can be shipped in-crate directly to the buyer’s residence.

Once it arrives, the customer completes the final assembly themselves using official instructions and step-by-step video guides provided by Zero. The motorcycles still come with a one-year vehicle warranty and a one-year power pack warranty. The selling dealer remains involved for support, service, and warranty claims.

According to Garrett Johnson, Vice President of Sales & Customer Experience for North America at Zero, the idea is to simplify the buying process while still maintaining the company’s dealer relationships.

Benefits for Dealers Too

The drop-ship model isn’t just about convenience for riders, it could also help dealers manage their operations more efficiently.

Because motorcycles can be shipped directly from central inventory, dealers no longer have to assemble every unit before delivery. That means less time spent on preparation and more available showroom and storage space. This would potentially reduce inventory pressure for smaller dealerships.

At the same time, the dealer remains the point of sale, ensuring the existing retail network stays part of the process.

Adapting to the E-Moto Boom

The move reflects a broader shift happening across the lightweight electric off-road segment, often referred to as the “e-moto” market. Many newer brands in the category sell directly online and ship bikes to customers’ homes, bypassing traditional dealership networks entirely.

By introducing this hybrid model, direct shipping with dealer support, Zero is attempting to balance the speed and convenience of modern online purchasing with the service infrastructure that dealerships provide.

For the company, it’s a way to stay competitive as the electric off-road segment continues to grow and attract a new generation of riders looking for quick, hassle-free access to electric motorcycles.
