Property developer Malton Bhd is looking beyond bricks and mortar, with plans to venture into the electric mobility space through potential electric motorcycle operations.
The group is understood to be evaluating opportunities in the fast-growing electric two-wheeler segment as part of efforts to diversify its business portfolio and tap into new recurring revenue streams.
Industry observers say the move aligns with the broader shift towards sustainable transportation, as demand for affordable and environmentally friendly mobility solutions continues to rise across Malaysia and the region.
Electric motorcycles and scooters are emerging as a practical urban transport alternative, driven by rising fuel costs, government decarbonisation targets, and expanding charging infrastructure.
Although the group has yet to finalise the details, Malton is actively exploring collaborations and partnerships within the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, including distribution, assembly, and related support services.
The diversification could complement Malton’s existing township and mixed-use developments, where integrated mobility solutions such as EV-friendly infrastructure may enhance the group’s long-term value proposition.
Analysts note that non-core ventures into mobility and technology have become more common among property developers seeking to future-proof earnings and reduce reliance on cyclical property sales.
If realised, Malton’s entry into electric motorcycles would position the group within one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing green transport segments, as cities accelerate the transition towards cleaner mobility.
The group will make further announcements after completing its feasibility studies and strategic plans.
