The Moto2 World Championship title fight will go right down to the wire in Valencia, but Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) has taken a massive step towards glory after a commanding victory at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Portugal in Portimão.

Starting from pole position, the Brazilian rider was untouchable from the start, launching perfectly off the line and taking control of the race from Turn 1. With this victory, Moreira now holds a 24-point lead over Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) heading into the final round at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, putting the title firmly within his grasp.

Joining Moreira on the podium were two impressive rookies, Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in second, marking his first Moto2 podium, and David Alonso (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) in third, securing his third consecutive podium finish.

Moreira knew exactly what was required to keep his championship hopes alive a victory or second place and he delivered flawlessly. Behind him, Veijer and Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) traded positions early on, but disaster struck for Dixon later as he crashed out, officially ending his championship challenge alongside Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing).

Despite an early setback that saw Baltus drop to 11th after Turn 1, he recovered to finish fifth, just behind teammate Arón Canet, who came home in fourth. The pair’s combined efforts earned Fantic Racing the Moto2 Teams’ Championship, a major milestone for the Italian outfit.

Gonzalez, meanwhile, endured a tough race, finishing sixth, leaving him with an uphill battle in Valencia. His fellow Spaniard Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) finished seventh, a result that also earned him the Moto2 Rookie of the Year title, a testament to his consistent debut season.

As the paddock now heads to Valencia, the championship equation is simple: Gonzalez must win to keep his hopes alive, while Moreira needs only a top-14 finish to secure the 2025 Moto2 World Championship before he steps up to MotoGP next year. With everything on the line at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, the stage is set for an electrifying season finale.
