Red Bull KTM Factory Racing dominated Round 18 of the 2025 MXGP World Championship at the Afyon circuit, taking overall wins in both premier classes. Jeffrey Herlings triumphed in MXGP for the second event in a row, while Simon Laengenfelder topped MX2, underscoring KTM’s late-season strength as the championship enters its final stretch.
Herlings Extends Turkish Dominance
Jeffrey Herlings proved once again why Afyon has become his hunting ground. The Dutchman went 2–1 across the motos to seal his fifth Turkish Grand Prix victory, raising his career win tally to 111. The result also marked his fourth victory of the 2025 season and stretched his podium streak to three consecutive rounds.
Herlings’ teammate Lucas Coenen starred as well, winning the opening moto and finishing second overall with a 1–3 scoreline. The rookie collected his 13th podium of the season, firmly establishing himself among the series’ top contenders.
“I’m super-pleased with this win,” Herlings said. “For a Dutch rider, this is a really tough track, but we made good changes to the bike and got it done. That’s 111 now, let’s push for more in China and Australia.”
Laengenfelder Takes MX2 Honours
In MX2, Simon Laengenfelder bounced back from a crash in the first moto to win the second race, securing his sixth overall victory of the year and tenth podium in 2025. Teammate Sacha Coenen impressed with a moto win on Saturday and a third overall, marking his ninth podium of the season. Andrea Adamo endured a difficult weekend, hampered by small mistakes and crashes that left him ninth overall.
Laengenfelder now leads the MX2 standings by 12 points over Kay de Wolf, while Adamo sits 62 points adrift. In MXGP, Coenen is just 26 points off the red plate with two rounds to go, while Herlings has climbed to sixth and remains in contention for a top-three championship finish.
Looking Ahead
With just two rounds remaining, in Shanghai, China, and then Australia, the MXGP World Championship is set for a thrilling conclusion. For KTM, Afyon was another display of the depth and versatility of its rider lineup, as the Austrian manufacturer swept every qualifying heat and all four motos in Turkey.
