Indian Motorcycle’s racing heritage added another historic chapter as Tyler O’Hara, two-time MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Champion, pushed an S&S-built Indian Challenger to a staggering 194.384 mph at the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats. The run set a new AMA 2000cc APS-AG record, eclipsing the previous mark of 169.828 mph that had stood since 1972.
A Modern Tribute to a Timeless Quest
Since 1901, racing has been central to Indian Motorcycle’s DNA, a tradition shaped by pioneers like Burt Munro, whose record-breaking rides on the Salt Flats remain the stuff of legend. By chasing top speed on a purpose-built King of the Baggers machine, O’Hara and the Indian team carried that legacy forward, blending modern engineering with the spirit of old-school speed.
Engineering Precision Meets Pure Courage
Partnering with performance specialists S&S Cycle and Mission Foods, Indian Motorcycle Racing transformed the Challenger into a land-speed missile while staying true to its bagger roots. O’Hara’s record-setting run showcased the bike’s stability and the team’s technical expertise as it edged ever closer to the coveted 200 mph barrier.
A Journey Captured on Film
To celebrate the achievement, Indian Motorcycle has released a documentary-style video chronicling the team’s preparation, challenges, and triumph on the Salt Flats. The film captures both the high-tech precision behind the build and the emotional drive that fuels riders to chase history.
From Burt Munro’s iconic runs to O’Hara’s new benchmark, Indian Motorcycle continues to honour its past while redefining the limits of speed.
