The 2025 FIM Enel MotoE World Championship returns this weekend for its third round at the Red Bull Ring, and the battle for the crown is wide open. With four different winners in the opening four races and just 20 points separating the top three in the standings, Austria promises another thrilling chapter in the electric class’ most competitive season yet.
Mantovani Leads, But the Gap Is Slim
Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward Factory Team) arrives in Spielberg with a slender 13-point advantage at the top of the table. The Italian’s victory in Assen’s Race 1, combined with three podiums from four starts, has given him the early momentum. However, Austria has never been his strongest venue, with last year’s best result being inside the top ten. That makes this weekend a crucial test if he hopes to keep the red plate.
Zaccone and Torres in Pursuit
Fresh from winning Assen’s Race 2, Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) is brimming with confidence. The Red Bull Ring will mark his 50th MotoE start, and a strong top-five showing here last year hints at another possible podium.
Double Champion Jordi Torres (Power Electronics Aspar Team) sits third in the standings. Although Austria eluded him in 2024, his race craft and experience could prove decisive as the season intensifies.
Baldassarri and the Close Midfield Fight
Rookie sensation Lorenzo Baldassarri (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE) claimed his first MotoE podium in Assen and currently lies fourth, just ahead of Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) and Kevin Zannoni (Power Electronics Aspar Team). Only a single point separates these three, making their battle one to watch. Baldassarri’s past P4 in Moto2™ at the Red Bull Ring adds weight to his contender status.
Dark Horses and Proven Winners
Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers Team MotoE) has been a consistent top-ten finisher and is hunting for another podium. Rookie Jacopo Hosciuc (MSI Racing Team) has impressed with three straight top tens, while Le Mans Race 1 winner Oscar Gutierrez returns after a quieter Assen, looking to reignite his title hopes.
Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Factory Team) rounds out the top ten and will be aiming for another solid points haul in Austria. Outside the current top ten, there’s no shortage of talent: defending Champion Hector Garzo and Brazilian star Eric Granado are both past winners at the Red Bull Ring, while Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE) will be desperate for a clean weekend after a tough start to the year.
Momentum Matters
With Austria marking the first back-to-back race run of the year before the paddock heads straight to Hungary, maintaining momentum will be critical. The Red Bull Ring’s mix of long straights, heavy braking zones, and elevation changes will push riders to the limit and with so little separating the frontrunners, every lap could prove decisive in the 2025 title chase.
