The sub-500cc motorcycle segment is heating up as Italian brand Moto Guzzi gears up to introduce its first modern small-capacity motorcycle. Spy shots reveal a new street naked model undergoing tests. It’s shaping up to be a promising mix of classic Guzzi charm and modern performance.

Retro Design Meets Modern Engineering

The prototype sports a retro-classic design, staying true to Moto Guzzi’s signature styling cues. It features a tubular frame with a bolt-on subframe, offering a sturdy yet modular structure. While it evokes the charm of vintage motorcycles, the engineering underneath tells a different story.

Aprilia’s 457cc Parallel-Twin at the Heart

In a major departure from tradition, Moto Guzzi has ditched its iconic air-cooled V-twins in favour of a 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. This is the same unit that powers the Aprilia RS457 and Tuono 457. Expect subtle tuning and a new exhaust setup to match Moto Guzzi’s character.

Shared DNA with Aprilia, but Guzzi’s Identity Remains

The test mule borrows several components from its Aprilia siblings, including wheels and braking systems. However, bespoke elements like the instrument cluster, USD front forks, twin rear shocks, headlight, and tail lamp help differentiate it and reinforce the Moto Guzzi identity.

Features and Expected Launch

Performance is expected to match the Aprilia RS457. We can expect an output of around 47 hp. This alongside a suite of electronic rider aids such as traction control, ride modes, and dual-channel ABS.

Sources suggest Moto Guzzi could unveil the motorcycle in pre-production form at EICMA 2025, with a global launch likely in 2026. Given Aprilia already manufactures its 457cc models in India for global markets, production of the Moto Guzzi could follow suit.

Market Positioning

Once launched, the new Moto Guzzi will take on rivals like the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, KTM 390 Duke, Triumph Speed 400, and Royal Enfield’s 450cc offerings, in both global and potentially Indian markets, should the brand opt to launch it locally.

Moto Guzzi’s entry into the lightweight naked segment signals an exciting new chapter for the storied brand, one that blends heritage with global relevance.
