Verge Motorcycles launches Verge Next, a new B2B platform offering its Donut engine and modular EV tech to manufacturers, aiming to drive collaboration and accelerate electric mobility.

In an industry known for its secrecy and siloed innovation, Finnish EV brand Verge Motorcycles is taking a bold, open-source-inspired leap. The company, famous for its futuristic hubless electric motorcycles, is launching Verge Next. It is a B2B initiative aimed at sharing its game-changing EV tech with the world.

Breaking the Mold of EV Secrecy

Traditionally, automakers and motorcycle manufacturers alike guard their EV technologies behind closed doors, viewing proprietary hardware as a competitive edge. The result? Higher prices, longer development cycles, and a slow path toward sustainability.

Verge wants to break that cycle.

With Verge Next, the company is flipping the script by licensing out its signature Donut engine. It is a hubless, rear-wheel-integrated motor developed with Donut Lab. Originally created for Verge’s high-performance electric bikes, this revolutionary motor reduces weight, improves efficiency, and delivers a smoother, more direct ride.

But Verge isn’t just selling motors. They’re offering a modular EV platform that other manufacturers can integrate into their own scooters, e-bikes, and motorcycles. Think of it as a plug-and-play system designed to cut development costs, reduce time-to-market, and promote innovation together.

Building an Ecosystem, Not Just a Bike

Verge’s goal isn’t just to sell parts—it’s to create an ecosystem. “Dozens of companies have reached out, eager to integrate our tech,” says Verge CEO Tuomo Lehtimäki. “We’re building a platform where manufacturers can innovate together, improving safety, rideability, and sustainability.”

The tech is scalable and customizable, meaning it can be tuned for everything from street commuters to lightweight scooters. And because it’s built with energy efficiency in mind, it helps extend battery life. This is an essential edge in the EV game.

Rethinking the EV Race

Verge’s move challenges the idea that the only path to profit is through exclusivity. By betting on collaboration and accessibility, Verge could accelerate the wider adoption of electric mobility, especially in fast-growing markets and underserved regions.

As Verge chairman and Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki puts it, “This isn’t just about selling parts—it’s about enabling a new wave of electric vehicles that are better for riders and the planet.”

If Verge Next takes off, we could see affordable, Verge-powered scooters and bikes in cities across the globe. Maybe even in rural areas that traditional auto makers often overlook.

In a sector full of closed systems and gatekeeping, Verge is holding the door wide open. And that could just be the spark the EV world needs.
