In a bold move to shake up the EV space, Matter has officially launched its much-anticipated Aera electric motorcycle in Bangalore. What makes the Aera stand out? It’s the first electric motorcycle in India to feature a four-speed manual transmission, blending traditional motorcycling feel with cutting-edge EV technology.
Launch Price and Early Bird Offer
The Matter Aera comes with a price tag of Rs 1.88 lakh (approx. RM10,500) (ex-showroom). However, the first 500 customers in Bangalore can snag the Aera for an introductory price of Rs 1.79 lakh (approx. RM10,000), along with a free lifetime battery warranty—a benefit usually priced at Rs 15,000 (approx. RM850).
A Unique Riding Experience
The standout feature of the Aera is its four-speed manual gearbox, mated to a liquid-cooled electric motor and battery pack. This setup, combined with three riding modes, offers a total of twelve distinct riding combinations (4 gears x 3 modes). This promises to deliver a level of engagement that most twist-and-go EVs don’t offer.
Smart Tech on Two Wheels
On the tech front, the Aera is loaded. It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen dashboard that supports:
- Ride analytics
- Call and message alerts
- Music playback
- Turn-by-turn navigation
Matter’s companion mobile app adds even more features, including remote lock/unlock, real-time bike stats, geo-fencing, and service alerts.
Battery, Charging, and Performance
Powering the Aera is a 5 kWh battery pack, IP67-rated, with a claimed IDC range of up to 172 km. It also features an onboard charger with a cable compatible with standard 5-amp sockets. According to Matter, the Aera can sprint from 0–40 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, and the running cost is a mere 25 paise per kilometre.
Build and Safety
The bike is built with practicality and safety in mind:
- Telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks for suspension
- Disc brakes at both ends, with ABS for enhanced safety
With its unique manual gearbox, high-tech features, and competitive pricing, the Matter Aera introduces a fresh take on electric motorcycling in India. While its real-world performance remains to be tested, the Aera certainly brings innovation to the table and could be a game-changer in the evolving EV landscape.
