Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) delivered a masterclass performance at the Gran Premio YPF Energía de Argentina, securing a dominant victory in the Moto2 Grand Prix. The British rider finished 3.5 seconds ahead of Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP), who claimed second place, while Celestino Vietti (Team HDR Heidrun) rounded out the podium in third.
Starting from the front row, Dixon got a lightning-fast launch off the line, stealing the holeshot from polesitter Gonzalez. By the end of the first lap, Dixon had already established himself as the rider to beat. Filip Salač (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) briefly joined the battle at the front, passing Gonzalez for second and creating an early Marc VDS 1-2.
However, Dixon quickly began to pull away, setting a blistering pace that no one could match. By Lap 5, his lead had grown to 0.488s, and by Lap 8, it exceeded one second. By the halfway point, Dixon was in complete control, cruising to a phenomenal victory and marking his first win aboard a Boscoscuro chassis.
Gonzalez and Vietti Complete the Podium
Manuel Gonzalez fought valiantly to secure second place, finishing 3.5 seconds behind Dixon. The Spanish rider’s consistency earned him valuable championship points, keeping him at the top of the standings as the series heads to Austin.
Celestino Vietti, meanwhile, bounced back from a disappointing round in Thailand to claim his first podium of the season. Starting from ninth on the grid, the Italian rider showcased his racecraft to fend off Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) and secure third place.
The race wasn’t without its drama. Filip Salač’s promising run came to an abrupt end on Lap 11 when he collided with Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing) at Turn 5. The incident cost Ramirez valuable time, dropping him out of contention for a podium finish.
Aron Canet ultimately settled for fourth place, while Ramirez recovered to finish fifth. Darryn Binder (ITALJET Gresini Moto2) put in a strong performance to take sixth, ahead of Alex Escrig (KLINT Forward Factory Team) in seventh.
Championship Standings
With his second-place finish, Manuel Gonzalez retains the championship lead, but Jake Dixon’s dominant victory has closed the gap significantly. Celestino Vietti’s podium finish has also boosted his position in the standings, setting the stage for an exciting battle as the series heads to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.
