If you’re looking for a stylish, capable, and affordable motorcycle to kickstart your riding journey, BMW has just the bike for you. Thanks to a collaboration with TVS, the BMW G 310 R is an entry-level roadster that packs impressive design, solid performance, and everyday practicality—all for under RM25,000. It’s an absolute steal for new riders or anyone looking for a fun, lightweight city bike.

A Baby Roadster With Big Bike Looks

Despite being BMW’s most budget-friendly motorcycle, the G 310 R doesn’t compromise on style. It takes clear inspiration from the aggressive BMW S 1000 R, with sharp bodywork, muscular tank shrouds, and a neatly designed aerodynamic front fender. Minimal bodywork keeps the bike slim, making it easy to manoeuvre in city traffic while still giving it a premium, sporty look. BMW knows how to make a bike look good, and the G 310 R is no exception.

Comfortable and Easy to Handle

One of the biggest draws of the G 310 R is its approachable ergonomics. With a seat height of just 30.9 inches, it’s perfect for shorter riders and those who are just getting comfortable on two wheels. The lightweight build, tipping the scales at 362 pounds, makes it easy to control, even at low speeds. The 54.3-inch wheelbase contributes to its nimbleness, allowing riders to confidently zip through city streets or carve corners on weekend rides. And with a 2.9-gallon fuel tank, you can cover a good amount of ground before needing a refill.

A Peppy, Fun-to-Ride Engine

Under the hood (or rather, under the tank), the G 310 R is powered by a 313cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It pushes out 34 horsepower and 20.6 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty to keep things exciting for a beginner-friendly roadster. The engine is designed with a backwards-tilted cylinder and a 180-degree rotated cylinder head, which helps with weight distribution and makes the bike feel more balanced. This setup also improves airflow, giving the bike a responsive and smooth power delivery. The top speed? A respectable 88 mph—more than enough for city riding and even some light highway cruising.

Solid Suspension and Braking Setup

BMW didn’t cut corners when it came to handling. The G 310 R features an inverted front fork and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, offering a comfortable ride while keeping things sporty. The braking system includes a 300mm front disc with a four-piston radial calliper and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston floating calliper. Dual-channel ABS comes standard, ensuring safe stopping power in all conditions.

Minimal but Functional Features

BMW keeps things simple with the G 310 R, but you still get some useful features. The bike comes with a ride-by-wire throttle for smooth power delivery, LED lighting all around for better visibility, and an LCD instrument cluster that displays all essential info. Adjustable brake and clutch levers add a nice touch, allowing riders to customize the feel to their preference. Unlike some of its competitors, BMW keeps the electronics minimal, which is actually a plus for beginners who don’t need overly complex settings to manage.

Practical Accessories for Everyday Use

Want to make your G 310 R even more practical? BMW offers a range of accessories to enhance the bike’s touring and commuting capabilities. A luggage rack, a 7.9-gallon top case, heated grips, and even a 12V power outlet with a USB charging socket are available to make long rides more comfortable. There’s also the option for a lower or higher seat, ensuring a perfect fit for different riders.

How Does It Stack Up Against the Competition?

The BMW G 310 R competes in the entry-level naked bike category, going up against the likes of the Honda CB300R, CFMoto 300NK, and QJ Motor SRK400. While the CB300R is a strong contender, it’s pricier and slightly down on power. The CFMoto 300NK undercuts the BMW in price but doesn’t quite match its premium feel. The QJ Motor SRK400 offers more power for less money, but being a newer brand in the U.S., its reliability and service network is still a question mark.

If you’re looking for a stylish, well-engineered roadster with BMW’s reliability and branding behind it, the G 310 R stands out as a fantastic choice. It’s an easy bike to ride, fun to own, and won’t break the bank—what’s not to love?
