When it comes to selecting a 250cc naked bike in Malaysia, two strong contenders stand out—the Modenas Kawasaki Z250 ABS and the Yamaha MT-25. Both bikes are powered by a thrilling 249cc engine and offer a blend of performance, technology, and design. But which one suits you best?

Many riders lean towards Yamaha, as the brand has long been a dominant force in the local market. With a strong reputation built over decades, Yamaha continues to see rising demand in Malaysia.

On the other hand, Kawasaki, now under Modenas, offers the Z250 ABS as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model. While some riders remain sceptical, trust in the brand is gradually growing. Despite being assembled by Modenas, the bike still retains Kawasaki’s engine and components.

Let’s take a closer look at the specifications, advantages, and key differences between these two popular models.

Performance Comparison

Both bikes deliver similar power, but the Z250 has a slight edge with 36.5 hp compared to the MT-25’s 35 hp. It also boasts a higher top speed of 178 km/h, while the MT-25 maxes out at 170 km/h. However, the MT-25 stands out with its smoother power delivery at higher RPMs, whereas the Z250’s torque kicks in more noticeably around 8,000 RPM.

When it comes to suspension, the Yamaha MT-25 has the upper hand, thanks to its upside-down (USD) forks. This setup enhances handling, stability, and cornering performance, making it a strong choice for riders who prioritize agility and control.

Features & Technology

Kawasaki Z250 Advantages:

  • Riding Assist Features: Equipped with Assist & Slipper Clutch, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), and Economical Riding Indicator for better fuel efficiency.
  • Sugomi Design: Inspired by its bigger siblings, the Z650 and Z800, it carries an aggressive, sharp styling.
  • Steel Fuel Tank: Offers better durability compared to plastic tanks.
  • Instrumentation: Uses an analog-digital hybrid meter, similar to older Z650 and Z800 models. However, newer versions have switched to LCD TFT displays.

Yamaha MT-25 Advantages:

  • Rider-Friendly Ergonomics: The seat height is not too high, making it a good choice for riders around 167cm in height, including female riders.
  • Modern Technology: Comes with ABS, a fully digital LCD meter panel, and LED “Predator” headlights for a futuristic look.
  • Plastic Fuel Tank: This makes the bike slightly lighter and resistant to rust.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • If you prefer a bike with aggressive Sugomi styling, better riding assist features, and a slightly higher top speed, the Kawasaki Modenas Z250 is a strong choice.
  • If you prioritize modern technology, digital displays, LED lighting, and a more beginner-friendly seat height, then the Yamaha MT-25 could be the better pick.

Both bikes are excellent options in the 250cc naked segment, offering a thrilling riding experience for different types of riders.
