The Motul FIM Superbike World Championship delivered a historic race on Sunday at the Pirelli Portuguese Round in Portimão. Toprak Razgatlioglu of the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team made headlines by becoming the first rider to achieve 13 consecutive victories in WorldSBK history.

Razgatlioglu dominated the weekend, winning all three races from pole position on his BMW M 1000 RR. This marked his fourth consecutive hat-trick and extended his lead in the championship to 92 points.

Out of the 21 races this season, the Turkish rider has won 15 and reached the podium three additional times. BMW now leads the manufacturer standings by 20 points. His teammates, Michael van der Mark and Garrett Gerloff, also delivered strong performances at Portimão.

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, expressed his amazement, saying, “What Toprak and the team have accomplished together is incredible. With 13 consecutive wins, he has made history for himself, the team, and BMW Motorrad Motorsport.”

Razgatlioglu shared his excitement as well: “Thirteen victories in a row and a new record – this is good, I am very happy with this. It has been an incredible weekend. Just the last race was a little bit difficult because of the strong wind, but I am really happy we won again.”

The winning streak began on April 21 at Assen, followed by hat-tricks at Misano, Donington, and Most. The goal at Portimão was to surpass the previous record of 11 consecutive wins held by Álvaro Bautista and Jonathan Rea.

Razgatlioglu secured his fourth consecutive pole position and set the stage for a thrilling weekend. He equalled the record in the first main race, set a new record with his 12th win in the Superpole race, and achieved his 13th win despite losing a wing in the final race.

Teammate Michael van der Mark #60 also had a strong showing, finishing sixth in the first race, narrowly missing the podium in the Superpole race with a fourth-place finish, and placing seventh in the second main race.

The WorldSBK championship will now take a short break before the next round at Magny-Cours, France, from September 6-8.
