Heading into the next Grand Prix, Francesco Bagnaia’s (Ducati Lenovo Team) impressive performance at Assen still resonates. The upcoming Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland at Sachsenring sees Bagnaia just 10 points behind Championship leader Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing). This gap is the closest between the top two since the season started in Portugal. Bagnaia has shown resilience, clawing his way back into contention with crucial performances. His goal this weekend is clear: reclaim the championship lead as he celebrates his 200th start across all classes, buoyed by consecutive victories.

Martin’s Consistency

Jorge Martin arrives at Sachsenring remembering his first career double victory here last year, achieved through a thrilling duel with Bagnaia. Martin has been consistently strong since the start of the 2024 season, except for a rare mistake at Jerez. Success in a season depends on minimizing errors, and Martin has managed this well while maintaining speed. Sachsenring offers Martin a prime opportunity to regain momentum and reinforce his standings.

The Unbeaten Marc Marquez

At Sachsenring, Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) remains unbeaten in MotoGP™. His dominance at the German GP is unmatched, with wins from 2013 to 2019 and again in 2021 after arm surgery. His streak includes wins in the 125cc class in 2010 and Moto2™ in 2011 and 2012. Although he missed 2022 due to surgery and withdrew in 2023 after a tough weekend, Marquez’s Sachsenring record is awe-inspiring. Now, on a competitive bike, he enters as the favourite. A victory would extend his run and mark an emotional win 987 days after his last.

Chasing Contenders

Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) has been the fastest rider in the closing laps of recent Grands Prix. He aims to improve his qualifying performance for an easier podium finish. Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) had a solid performance at Assen and shows strong form at Sachsenring, potentially emerging as a dark horse. Meanwhile, teammate Aleix Espargaro, with a fractured finger from Assen, will be eager to make his 329th GP start, potentially becoming the rider with the third most starts across all classes.

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) impressed at Assen and is now central in 2025 contract rumors. His teammate Marco Bezzecchi seeks a more positive weekend, while Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) heads to Germany with his future secured at Gresini for two more seasons. Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) aims for standout performances after a solid outing at Assen.

KTM and Trackhouse Racing

Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) has reduced recent errors and aims to push higher than his Assen finish. Rookie sensation Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) seeks redemption after a last-lap crash at the Dutch GP. Teammates Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez aim to secure more points and pace. At Trackhouse Racing, Raul Fernandez currently leads in the intra-team rivalry, with Miguel Oliveira determined to respond. Both riders’ 2025 plans are still unconfirmed, adding more intrigue.

New Horizons and a Home Hero

Yamaha’s announcement to field two more “factory” spec bikes from 2025 with Prima Pramac Racing is a positive sign. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) makes his 100th MotoGP™ start at Sachsenring, where he has won before. With Alex Rins recovering from surgery, WorldSBK rider Remy Gardner steps in temporarily.

Honda has also made moves by signing Aleix Espargaro to their test team post-2024, joining Luca Marini and Johann Zarco at CASTROL Honda LCR. Joan Mir’s future with Repsol Honda is speculative. Meanwhile, Stefan Bradl returns for wildcard action in his home GP, adding a local hero to the mix.

Final Countdown to Sachsenring

The stage is set for an exciting showdown at Sachsenring. With Marc Marquez looking to extend his unbeaten streak and Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin vying for the championship lead, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Will Marquez’s fairytale continue, or will Bagnaia and Martin turn it into a fable? Tune in to the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland to find out!
