JDT Racing Team’s Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah rebounds with a strong second-place finish in the second race of the 2024 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at Mandalika, Indonesia.
Following a disappointing seventh-place finish in the first race of the Asian Superbike 1000 (ASB1000) on July 27, Hafizh was determined to make a strong comeback.
He completed the second race with a time of 20 minutes 57.923 seconds, trailing Yamaha Tekhne Racing Team ASIA’s Soichiro Minamimoto, who clocked 20’55.484s.
One crucial adjustment made by the JDT Racing Team for Hafizh was a change in tyre selection for the second race.
Riders started the second race from their qualifying positions on July 27, with Hafizh beginning in fourth place behind Japanese riders Soichiro Minamimoto and Yuki Kunii, and Indonesian rider Andi Farid Izdihar.
At the race’s onset, Hafizh found himself in seventh place after being overtaken by several competitors, including compatriots Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin and Zaqhwan Zaidi.
Despite a slow start, Hafizh managed to overtake Zaqhwan and Nakarin Atiratphuvapat of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Astemo.
A twist of fate struck Yuki Kunii as he crashed while leading the race, opening the door for Minamimoto and Hafizh to seize the lead and second positions. Hafizh maintained his pace, ultimately finishing second behind Minamimoto, who emerged victorious in the second ASB1000 race.
Meanwhile, Honda Asia-Dream Racing’s Md Zaqhwan Zaidi finished fourth, with Sho Nishimura of TKKR BMW Racing Team securing fifth place.
This podium finish serves as a significant boost for Hafizh ahead of the fifth round of the ARRC 2024, scheduled to take place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) from September 13 to 15.
