Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi mentioned potential requirements like being 35 and holding a B2 license for a certain period. The final decision will come after a meeting between the Road Transport Department (RTD) and Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).
Zahid announced last August that the proposal for an automatic upgrade from B2 to B license would be examined by the Transport Ministry.
The RTD categorizes B2 for motorcycles not exceeding 250 cc and B for those exceeding 500 cc.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared concerns about road accidents involving individuals aged 16 to 35. He noted that giving a B license to someone who recently got a B2 license might lead to reckless behavior. Loke acknowledged that older riders might be more experienced and responsible on the road.
The decision timeframe is up to Minister Loke. The aim is to balance making it easier for responsible and experienced riders to upgrade while considering safety concerns for younger, less-experienced riders on the road.
