In the world of two-wheelers, Italjet is turning heads with its latest creation, the Dragster 559 Twin.

This prototype breaks free from traditional scooter norms, featuring a robust 550cc twin-cylinder engine that pumps out an impressive 58bhp, marking a significant leap in scooter performance. Unveiled at the recent Eicma tradeshow in Milan, this scooter not only packs power but also boasts distinctive styling, reminiscent of a blend between a Ducati Panigale and Bimota Tesi.

Massimo Tartarini, Italjet’s President and CEO, expressed excitement, stating, “With the Dragster 559 Twin, we have created an unprecedented, revolutionary, and unique vehicle in the world of two-wheelers.” Drawing inspiration from sports motorcycles, Italjet aimed to blend the thrill of riding a motorcycle with the nimbleness and agility of scooters.

Originally known for small-wheeled kid’s bikes in the ’60s and ’70s, Italjet made waves in 1995 with its first Dragster – a sporty 125 featuring patented, forkless ‘RADD’ front suspension and a tubular steel space frame. Fast forward to 2018, under Massimo Tartarini’s leadership, the brand revived the Dragster concept with 125 and 200cc four-stroke models.

Now, raising the stakes again, the Dragster 559 Twin is in its final prototype stage, set to hit the market by the end of 2024. Building on the success of the Dragster 300, slated for release next year, Italjet is pushing boundaries with this new concept, designed at the Italjet Design Centre in Bologna, Italy.

Beneath its striking exterior lies a new 550cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, eight-valve parallel twin engine, crafted by the Chinese brand Zongshen. With a claimed output of 58.33bhp at 8500rpm and 40.6lbft at 6500rpm, this powerhouse stands tall against competitors, notably Yamaha’s 562cc TMAX Tech Max. While an A2 compliant version is in the pipeline, it’s clear that the Dragster 559 Twin prioritizes raw power and performance over the ease of use and practicality offered by other scooters.

Italjet’s commitment to breaking stereotypes and creating new market segments is vividly showcased through the Dragster 559 Twin, marking a new chapter in the history of two-wheelers. As the scooter landscape evolves, Italjet stands at the forefront, daring to redefine expectations and deliver an unmatched riding experience.
