Johann Zarco of Prima Pramac Racing pulled off a sensational first-time victory in the MotoGP Guru by Gryfyn Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, executing a brilliant manoeuvre on the final lap. He cleverly trailed his teammate and title contender Jorge Martin before making a clean move to seize the lead. This strategic move also paved the way for Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) to make his move, snatching the opportunity from Martin. Martin, equipped with a soft rear tire, found himself under pressure from Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in the final moments.

Initially, Binder made a strong start, but Martin maintained his position from the pole and quickly established a lead. Martin’s plan was clear: he aimed to maintain his lead by nursing the soft rear tire until the end. However, as the race progressed, the chasing group closed in, and Martin’s lead dwindled. The gap, once over three seconds, began to shrink, with Diggia closing in on Binder. Meanwhile, Bagnaia and Zarco managed to catch up with the leading group.

With nine laps to go, Di Giannantonio overtook Binder and started to chase down Martin. Bagnaia and Zarco also closed the gap, creating a competitive battle for the lead.

Despite Binder’s attempt to counterattack with five laps remaining, the group continued to close in on Martin. Zarco made a well-timed move and quickly moved into second place, setting his sights on Martin.

On the final lap, Zarco made his move, overtaking Martin at Turn 4 to take the lead. Bagnaia swiftly followed, demoting Martin to third. Zarco crossed the finish line to secure his first MotoGP win, with Bagnaia in second and Di Giannantonio claiming his maiden MotoGP podium in third place. Binder also managed to pass Martin, securing fourth position right at the finish line.

The battle for positions behind them was intense, with Bezzecchi making a strong move to take sixth place from Miller. Aleix Espargaro finished in eighth place, closely followed by Alex Marquez, who made an impressive recovery. Enea Bastianini completed the top ten, while Maverick Viñales and Marc Marquez faced challenges in the race.

This race at Phillip Island will go down in history as a unique and iconic event. Johann Zarco’s victory marks a historic moment, with Bagnaia and Martin also showcasing their skills.
