China’s Benda Motorcycles is one of the motorcycle manufacturers which has set sights on marketing the brand globally.

Last year, Benda stole the spotlight with the launch of several models. Many were intrigued mainly with cruiser concepts such as the LFC700, LFS700 and VTC300.

This time, Benda has plans to introduce a ‘sportsbike’ model by filing a patent for the name VTR300 Turbo last year.

While the LFS700 and VTC300 were launched late last year, the VTR300 Turbo had yet to be seen. The VTR300 Turbo project stole the spotlight because of the word ‘Turbo’ itself.

The latest patent reveals that the 300cc V-Twin engine will not feature turbo technology as its name implies. The bike will instead apply a mechanically driven ‘supercharger’ system.

According to reports, a V-Twin 300cc engine is capable of producing around 30hp. However, with the presence of a ‘supercharger’, the engine involved can easily produce 50hp.

Based on the patent, it is clear that the Benda ‘supercharger’ system is not conventional. This is because the power is not produced at the crankshaft, but instead, a ‘blower’ system is installed on one of the ‘cylinder heads’. It then channels the movement on the ‘camshaft’.

The design of the ‘supercharger’ system is produced in the same ‘centrifugal’ shape as the ‘supercharger’ system on the Kawasaki H2.

However, compared to Kawasaki, the drive system designed by Benda is more compact. This is because it needs to be attached to the engine’s ‘camshaft’ instead of the ‘crankshaft’. By taking into account the ‘camshaft’ rotating at half the speed of the ‘crankshaft’, this means that the ‘supercharger’ system needs to be tuned higher to achieve a better rotational speed.

Although the development of this engine is quite interesting, Benda has not yet made any official announcement.

This means we may only get a chance to see the VTR 300 Turbo model after a few more years.
