Africa Twin Based Honda NT1100 Sport-Tourer Is on the Way?

Honda has just filed a trademark application for the name “NT1100” which suggests the arrival of a new sport- touring bike based on the Africa Twin.

We all know Honda has been looking for ways to use Africa Twin’s parallel-twin mill in a wide range of products. The Honda CMX 1100 Rebel which was launched last year is an example of it. Well, with the CMX cruiser out in the wild, it looks like Honda is planning on adding a new sport-tourer range based on the Africa Twin’s parallel-twin engine. So how do we know this?

The latest trademark application – Filed on 2nd February 2021

Well, according to sources, Honda has just filed a trademark application for the name “NT1100” in Europe for an incoming bike. The NT name was a staple in Honda’s mid-range sports tourer, the Honda Deauville.  Also designated as “NT650V” and “NT700V”, the production of this 650cc – 680cc sport tourer range ran for 15 years from 1998 – 2013.

What does the name, NT1100 mean?

Comparing with the earlier designated name, the NT in “NT1100” hints a sport-tourer range while the “1100” points to the displacement of the incoming bike.

Speaking of the displacement, just like the newly launched Honda CMX 1100 Rebel, the NT1100 would most likely make use of Honda Africa Twin’s 1084cc parallel-twin engine. As for the gearbox, similar to the Rebel 1100, Honda would most likely offer the new model in two variants; Automatic DCT and manual.

Well, for now, the details of the model are scarce. Also, remember, just because Honda trademarked the name doesn’t mean the NT1100 is confirmed. However, with the sudden launch of the CMX 1100 last year, we just can’t take this lightly. If Honda decides to launch the NT11000, we think the model would only be launched in the next 1-3 years before the current Africa Twin gets an update. Well, like we always say, only time would tell.
