2021 Yamaha YZF-R25 Launched in Malaysia

HLYM updates the quarter-litre sports bike, the Yamaha YZF-R25 for 2021. For this year, the Yamaha YZF-R25 gets a minor aesthetic update.

Following the launch of the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R15 in Indonesia yesterday, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd launches the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R25 for Malaysia. For 2021, the quarter-litre Yamaha YZF-R25 gets a new colour option, Cyan Metallic in Malaysia. Besides this, the mechanical components on the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R25 are carried forward from the updated R25 from last year, 2020.

2021 Yamaha YZF-R25

Starting with the design, the 2021 model uses the same fairing design as the previous 2020 model. As before, the quarter-litre YZF-R25 design follows Yamaha’s R-DNA. From the aggressive front facia to the narrow tail section, the YZF-R25 echos the sleek design of the bigger YZF-R1.

The model features a dual-LED headlamp unit up front and a sleek LED taillight unit at the rear. On the inside, the YZF-R25 gets a multifunctional LCD panel.

Suspension duties are taken care of by a gold anodised upside-down front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear.  Braking is done via a 2 piston calliper with 300mm disc up front and a single-piston calliper with 220mm disc at the rear. As for the wheels and tyre, the YZF-R25 rolls in with a set of 17-inch wheels with 110/70 front tyre and 140/70 rear tyre.

In the case of the engine, the YZF-R25 is powered by a liquid-cooled 249cc two-cylinder 8 valve DOHC engine. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the YZF-R25 puts out 35.5hp @ 12,000 rpm and a peak torque of 22.6Nm @ 10,000 rpm.

Dimensionwise, built around a diamond frame, the R25 rolls in with a seat height of 780mm. The R25 weighs 166kg dry and fuel is contained in a 14.30-litre tank.

Colour options and Pricing

As mentioned earlier, besides the addition of the new colour scheme, the model sees no mechanical updates for 2021 in Malaysia. Speaking of the colour scheme, the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R25 comes in two colour options; Cyan Metallic & Yamaha Blue.

(For 2021, the new Cyan colour option replaces the earlier Matte Silver colour scheme from 2020. Meanwhile 2nd, Matte Blue colour is carried forward for this year, however, it is now called Yamaha Blue).

2021 Yamaha YZF-R25 Price in Malaysia

For 2021, the recommended basic sales price for the YZF-R25 (without r/tax, no. plates & Ins) remains unchanged at RM 19,998.00 in Malaysia.
