National Moto2 rider, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, suffered a horrific crash in the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring Circuit on Sunday. The Malaysian rider started off the Moto2 race smoothly with the aim of a third points-finish but his hopes were shattered when he encountered an explosive collision en route to finishing his lap. However, it has been reported that Hafizh is undergoing a good recovery.

During the fourth lap of the race, Italtrans Racing Team’s Enea Bastianini had a serious accident and was thrown off his Kalex in Turn 1. Hafizh Syahrin could not see the bike and suffered the unfortunate impact by crashing into it. Edgar Pons of Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 also ended up falling. All riders involved in the accident are conscious.

The Inde Aspar Team Moto2 rider suffered mild injuries during the collision and the pain has not worn off. However, Hafizh Syahrin confirms that he did not sustain any serious injuries.

“Hafizh is conscious, but bruised. Otherwise, he is OK. He is still in the medical centre for further observation,” says Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team principal Datuk Razlan Razali as quoted from New Straits Times.

The Styrian Grand Prix will be taking place next weekend at the Red Bull Ring as well. The rider remains optimistic for his upcoming run.

“I am glad as there were no serious injuries, but the crash was very nasty. I still feel the pain on both legs, especially my left leg.”

“Currently, I’m using crutches to help with my movement.  I hope to recover as soon as possible. Hopefully, I can ride for this weekend’s race (Styrian GP),” says Hafizh as quoted from Malay Mail Online.
