The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: A Biker’s Ideal Companion

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: A Biker’s Ideal Companion

March 18, 2020

Even in the digital age, one vital item bikers often overlook is the smartphone. As ubiquitous as the smartphone is in everyone’s daily life, us bikers still seem to overlook this important tool. We often still try to navigate our way through heavy KL traffic with our antiquated devices, only to get awfully frustrated when the phone starts lagging.

Well, folks, we’re 3 months into 2020 already. Don’t you think it’s time for an upgrade? We at iMotorbike think so as well. We had become rather frustrated with our ageing device (one of our employees still uses his 6-year old “smartphone”). So we decided that if we wanted to upgrade, we would look at the following aspects:

  1. Build quality.
  2. Ease of use.
  3. Camera quality.
  4. Battery life.
  5. Speed

After careful consideration, we decided to pull the trigger on the latest buzz in the smartphone world. Yes, it is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra that rolled out a few days back. After having used the device for some time, we had to recommend it to our fellow bikers as well.

Build quality: Sturdy on the road

Starting with the build quality, despite its potent size, the aluminium housing makes the phone light and elegant. When coupled with a motorcycle holder and used as a GPS or dashcam, the phone stands sturdy and steady; no annoying vibrations or flexing.

The S20 Ultra features a Gorilla Glass 6 screen and rear panel. Despite having a glass front and back, the phone is very tough and scratch-resistant. For us bikers, this means we won’t have to worry when bumping the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra into our gear, or accidentally dropping it. Additionally, the S20 Ultra is water-resistant, so you won’t have to worry about your phone during a heavy pour.

Ease of use: No more mid-drive fumbling

The phone is also extremely easy to use, thanks to its large display. The 6.9-inch display makes using Google Maps or Waze on the go a breeze. Additionally, the always-on display and in-screen fingerprint reader takes the hustle away in unlocking and accessing the phone on the go.

The screen’s resolution is also nothing to scoff at. The Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120 Hz capability makes colours pop out beautifully while being sharp and snappy. We were also highly impressed by the brightness and clarity offered by this screen setup. This crisp display with eyecare performs well in dark too, good for midnight cruising.

Camera quality: Capture your bike like never before

We also know how important it is to flex sometimes. Don’t be ashamed, we all do it. While you might be used to flexing your motorcycle at the local bike meet-up, you might also want to post some beautiful pictures of it online. One of the features that outstand on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the camera. It features a whopping 108-megapixel camera which is the largest smartphone camera in the market. With this camera, you won’t just have a picture of your motorcycle, you’ll see even the tiniest detail which is not visible to the naked eyes.

To test the S20 ultra’s camera we took a trip down to Chear Motorrad Puchong and Chear Motor Shah Alam. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the photos and videos that the S20 Ultra could take. The 108-megapixel photo-taking capability,8K video recording and anti-shake feature were so good that it could replace our professional camera and gimbal setup.

You might have come across the 100X zoom hype of the S20 Ultra already. However, having used this feature baffled us, it is indeed mindblowing what this camera can do. With this feature, you wouldn’t have to struggle to find a good for closeup pictures and videos during track days.

Check out a few 108 Megapixel photos, 4K and 8K videos that we covered and see it for yourself.

Battery life: Bigger the better

Maybe you’re not really into boasting your motorcycle online, and you just want to enjoy riding it and exploring new things along the way. The S20 Ultra may also come handy in that! The average smartphone battery capacity is 2500 mAh, which makes them last barely a day. This starts to become an issue when you are travelling through a remote area which has no charging spots around. Running out of your phone battery in a remote area is almost like running out of battery in a fully electric car or bike, once you are out of juice, it is the end.

The S20 Ultra, on the other hand, packs a 5000 mAh battery. Also the same capacity as some power banks in the market. Having experienced the extended battery life, this is another feature that pushes the S20 Ultra to a whole new level. The phone could take pictures and videos, used for navigation for hours and still have plenty of battery to spare. Rest assured, the 5000 mAh battery will extend the life of your smartphone by many hours, so you can keep exploring as many highways and backroads as you want. As the phone boasts fast charging and wireless charging, the s20 Ultra is also incredibly quick and efficient when it comes to charging too.

Speed: For people who think faster than fast

Last but not least, let’s talk about speed. Us bikers are all about speed, whatever it is, we lust for fast machines. Whether we use our smartphones to navigate, video call, watch MotoGP or even to play games, we want them to be fast. Through our hands-on experience, we found the S20 Ultra to be extremely smooth, snappy and fast while using it for multiple purposes; Navigation, using it as a camera, surfing youtube and internet.

The Celcom MEGA Plan: Take it further

Everywhere we go, we spend most of our time online. Having a slow and inefficient internet service defeats the purpose of having a well-specced smartphone. Also, do not underestimate the importance of fast internet. Especially when you need to communicate or access your social media during a convoy road trip. You wouldn’t want to be the only person with snail-tier internet. Trust me, we’ve been there before. After having used the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra in conjunction with Celcom’s MEGA plan, we think this plan complements the phone perfectly.

Celcom’s MEGA plan has several attractive features that would make your experience even more enjoyable. You can now trade-in your unused internet quota at Rm5 per 10 GB. On top of this, the package lets you enjoy free-roaming and allows you to customize the package depending on your needs. Perfect when you are planning your road trip next month, where you might need a change in your internet package.

The best part of it all is, you can get the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra together with the Celcom MEGA plan! It’s truly a game-changer as the most powerful smartphone on the market gets coupled with the most powerful internet on the market. Truly perfect for your biker adventures where you need a reliable device and internet to fulfil your ride.

You can own the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra (128GB) with Celcom plan using Easyphone Own or Device Bundle Options
