Suzuki is still working on the GSX 700 Turbo

A set of new patents reveal that Suzuki is still working on the GSX 700 Turbo project that started in 2013 with the Recursion.

Suzuki said they would be revealing many new models at this year’s EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show. But in reality the Hamamatsu factory only revealed the updated V-Strom 1050.

Some fans asked what happened to all those models we said that Suzuki was going to reveal. We had no answer to that. But we didn’t have to wait for too long to get some information.

According to British website Bennetts, Suzuki is still working on the GSX 700 Turbo. We expected to see the production version of this bike at EICMA. But Suzuki didn’t say anything about this bike.

This project started in 2013 with the Recursion concept bike. At the time the twin-cylinder engine had a displacement of a little over 500 cc. It used a turbo to bump power and torque. Two years later Suzuki showed a new version of the engine.

The EX7 revealed during Tokyo Motor Show featured 700 cc displacement and the same turbo.

Four years have passed since that reveal. And without any information about the GSX 700 Turbo, we thought Suzuki decided to quit working on it. But we were wrong!

A new set of patent drawings show that Suzuki keeps evolving the GSX 700 Turbo. The turbo itself is now much closer to the cylinder heads. This allows for a compact engine and while reducing the lag between throttle commands and engine response.

The supercharged engine of the GSX 700 Turbo still has two radiators. But now there’s a bigger one on top and a smaller one installed below the turbo.

On the many drawings, we can clearly see the tubular frame. The exhaust system is compact and positioned down low on the bike. This not only makes for a compact motorcycle but also lowers the center of gravity for great agility.

These new patent drawings show that Suzuki is still working on the GSX 700 Turbo. It’s now likely that the bike will be revealed by the end of 2020.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
