MotoGP – Marquez wins again on the day Lorenzo says goodbye

MotoGP – Marquez wins again on the day Lorenzo says goodbye

Marc Marquez closed the MotoGP season with another fantastic performance on the day Jorge Lorenzo says goodbye.

The 2019 MotoGP season has ended today in Valencia at the Ricardo Tormo circuit. The last race of the season was another great show for the fans, that saw Marc Marquez win again. The MotoGP champion made it look easier than it really was.

At the start of the MotoGP race, it was Petronas Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo who was off to a better start. The Frenchman, “Rookie of the Year”, tried to escape at the front, but by lap 3 he was already being pursued by Marc Marquez.

Unlike what happened at Buriram, Thailand, this time Marquez didn’t wait too long to pass Quartararo. The Spaniard was trying to end the season in a high note, and as soon as Quartararo left the door open, Marquez took that opportunity to reach the head of the race.

From then on, Marquez put down fast laps, one after the other, and Quartararo tried to keep up but he was losing precious tenths on each lap.

On the last lap, Marc Marquez had a little over 1.5-second advantage over Fabio Quartararo. The Repsol Honda rider won once again a MotoGP race. This season Marquez was either 1st or 2nd at every MotoGP race. Except for the race at Austin, Texas, where he suffered a crash.

The third spot was for Australian Jack Miller. The Pramac Ducati rider spent most of the time chasing down Quartararo, and by mid-race, he looked like he was going to clinch the second spot from the Franch rookie.

But Quartararo sensed Miller’s approach and answered by lowering his lap times. Miller had no other choice but to secure the third spot in Valencia.

Today also marks the end of Jorge Lorenzo’s career. The Spaniard quits racing with a 13th spot on the Valencia GP. Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna CEO, said that during the Spanish GP 2020, Lorenzo will be named MotoGP Legend. A great tribute to a five-time world champion.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
