MotoGP – Hafizh Syahrin finishes the season with a 15th
The Malaysian rider finishes a tough MotoGP season in the points. Hafizh Syahrin closes the championship in 23rd and heads back to Moto2.
After a dream season in 2018 racing with the Tech3 Yamaha outfit, Hafizh Syahrin suffered more than expected this season. Despite staying with the Tech3 team, the change from Yamaha to KTM machinery proved more difficult than initially expected.
With just 9 points to his name, Syahrin closed the 2019 MotoGP season in the 23rd spot. At the season finale in Valencia, the Malaysian rider finished the race in 15th, scoring a single point.
It wasn’t the season Hafizh Syahrin expected. After just two years in MotoGP, he will head back to the Moto2 championship. He signed a new contract with the Angel Nieto Team for 2020.
“2019 is done, I’m really, really sorry to my team, especially my crew, because they were pushing so hard, but for me it was very difficult to find the rhythm to be consistent compared to my first year in MotoGP. I can only say I’m sorry, I tried my best! This race was very slow for me. One point is better than nothing in the end, but we were hoping for a lot better race pace. Anyway, thank you to everybody to support me and believe in me and also especially Hervé for giving me this opportunity for two years. I will try to come back stronger, so this is part of my journey now. Hervé built up my experience and my confidence. I just wish all the best to the team! I will miss this family! Thank you very much also to KTM for trusting in me, I’m sorry, that I couldn’t show my best this season”, said Hafizh Syahrin after the race in Valencia.
