Italian MotoGP Ducati rider will race for the Audi Sport team in the DTM championship. Dovizioso will race at Misano as a “wildcard”.
It’s not the first time that a MotoGP rider takes on the challenge of race in four wheels. Valentino Rossi is the biggest example, having raced and won the Monza Rally Show. Now, his compatriot Andrea Dovizioso will also switch to four wheels.
According to a press release from today, Dovizioso will race in the DTM championship with Audi Sport. The car will be the Audi RS5 DTM, which makes over 610 hp!
For Andrea Dovizioso, this will be a chance to show his driving talent. He will race in place of injured Pietro Fittipaldi, the usual race driver for Audi Sport. The DTM race will happen in Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, near Dovizioso hometown, so the DTM organizers expect a lot of fans at the Italian track.
Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali and Ducati Corse general manager Luigi Dall’Igna allowed Audi Sport to invite Andrea Dovizioso. This isn’t usual, since “DesmoDovi” is fighting for the MotoGP championship, and an accident in DTM can cause an injury.
