Suzuki confirms the end of the road for the mighty Hayabusa

Wait! Before all you Hayabusa fans start to panic with this article, we at iMotorbike have great news: The Suzuki Hayabusa, or GSX-R1300, will live on! Wait, what? But isn’t the title to this article saying the exact opposite?

Well, your right to say that. But let us explain why the title to this article and why we then say the Suzuki Hayabusa will live on.

This story traces back to 2016, when the European Union (EU) decided to impose stricter emission laws, the famous Euro4 homologation that we all heard at some point in time for the last two years. Motorcycle manufacturers, like Suzuki, had two years to adapt to this legislation and had also that time frame to sell the existing motorcycles that didn’t comply with the Euro4 legislation.

Now, when we’re just a few weeks away from 2019, this means Suzuki won’t be able to sell any brand new GSX-R1300 Hayabusa on European dealerships and, in fact, in many other countries that have also adopted the Euro4 homologation process like Japan, Suzuki’s home country.

This being said, Suzuki has now confirmed our worst fears and the mighty Hayabusa will, in fact, cease production in Japan, since this hyperbike isn’t able to fit inside the Euro4 regulations.

But not everything is bad news!

As we said in the beginning, the Hayabusa model and legend will live on, and according to inside sources on the Hamamatsu brand, a new generation of the Hayabusa is in the works for some time now and is expected to be revealed anytime in the next two years.

The Japanese manufacturer pledged itself to introduce no less than 10 new models in the next three years, and this ambitious strategy plan will surely include the next generation of the popular Hayabusa. Rumours point to the engine increasing in displacement to well over 1400 cc, power will also increase as will maximum torque, and Suzuki will apply many race-derived technologies on this bike.

So, as you see, there’s nothing to worry about. Yes, we will miss the Hayabusa for now, and all the turbo conversions this model is now known for, especially in the United States where they’re used for drag racing, but for sure Suzuki is working on something truly special for the next-gen GSX-R1300 Hayabusa. And we can’t wait to see it and ride her!
