We’re very close to witnessing the end of an era. Ducati decided to leave the iconic V2 engine on its superbike range, opting instead to develop a brand-new V4 unit that we’ve seen being used on the latest generation Panigale V4 bikes.
But the V2 engine is still a piece of engineering that will leave many Ducatisti crazy to own one, and for those riders Ducati still has one last batch of the exotic 1299 Panigale R Final Edition.
If you remember correctly, the Final Edition variant, as the name implies, is the final version of the V2 Panigale. Ducati have fabricated a total of 1299 units of the Final Edition, all of them numbered and delivered to each customer with a certificate of authenticity, which makes them even more desirable.
Considered to be a collector’s item, the last batch of the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition have already left the Borgo Panigale factory, in Bologna, and all of them are on their way to Ducati dealerships around the world!
The Superquadro engine derives from the same unit Ducati uses on the ultra-exotic Superleggera, it’s Euro4 compliant, and the V2 delivers no less than 209 hp at 11.000 rpm. The internals use a lot of exotic materials like tungsten and titanium, and the pistons are mostly the same as it was used on the World Superbike Panigale R race bike.
Making a direct link to that same race bike, the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition features conventional mechanical suspension by Öhlins, Brembo race grade calipers and brake discs, and the complete exhaust system has the Akrapovic signature and is exactly the same as in the race bike for World Superbike.
With a special “tricolore” paint scheme of red, white and green, the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition will surely hit cult status among the Ducatisti round the world, and if you want to own one of these special bikes, go to your Ducati dealership and secure one of the last units still available.
