SBK – Ten Kate declared bankrupt

SBK – Ten Kate declared bankrupt

November 27, 2018

It’s a sad day for World Superbike fans, as Ten Kate racing team has announced they’re bankrupt after the surprise end of partnership with Honda Racing Corporation. The Dutch team, led by Ronal ten Kate together his brother Gerrit, has raced Honda machines in World Superbike and Supersport level for the past 18 years, gathering a total of 10 world championships and bumping itself to be one of the most important teams in this championship.

With Honda having announced they would be returning to World Superbike as a factory team, choosing Althea Racing and Moriwaki to be their new partners, the Ten Kate structure was left without a motorcycle manufacturer for 2019 in the last minute, and that made it impossible for the team to secure the necessary funds to continue.

At the moment, the Dutch team confirms they’ve hit bankruptcy, but they’re working to get back into racing at world level somewhere in the 2019 season, but if they can’t find the money to do it, they promise to be back full-time in 2020.

In the press release sent today to the media, Ronald ten Kate and Gerrit also confirm that they’re business as Honda dealers isn’t affected by this, and they’ll continue to be the biggest Honda dealership in Northern Europe.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
