KTM showed a brand-new 1290 Super Duke GT for 2019, and even before this new version arrives at the dealerships, the orange brand decided to give the bike a shakedown on public roads.
So, KTM asked Tourist Trophy and known road racer Michael Rutter to take the 1290 Super Duke GT for a spin around the TT course, and Rutter did more than KTM expected!
Featuring a V-twin 1301 cc LC8 engine, capable of pumping out 173 hp, the Super Duke GT is nothing like the race bikes Michael Rutter is used to, but after riding the sport-touring bike around the Isle of Man, he had this to say
“The GT is a world away from what I usually ride, I was amazed by the performance – particularly the engine; the torque and drive is phenomenal. Very impressive. Comfort is a big factor; the seat and bar position were spot-on at speed on track and on the road. For a bike designed to tackle a variety of riding types – having a blast and all-day touring – it works fantastically in all situations, even ridden hard on the fast and bumpy Jurby circuit. Best of all, it has heated grips!”.
With such an impressive shakedown, things are looking good for the new 1290 Super Duke GT.
