Moto2 – Marinelli Snipers team terminates Fenati’s contract

Moto2 – Marinelli Snipers team terminates Fenati’s contract

September 10, 2018

It’s official now: the Marinelli Snipers team has announced they’ve terminated the contract they had with Italian rider Romano Fenati, following his action during the San Marino GP in Misano, which involved Fenati being black flagged for an incident with Stefano Manzi.

Yesterday afternoon, right after the GP, the Marinelli Snipers team had already released a press release where they condemned the action taken by Romano Fenati during the Moto2 race, and apologized for his behavior, but at the time, the team didn’t say exactly what they would do to punish the rider for his actions.

24 hours later, the team reached the obvious conclusion they had to terminate their bond with Fenati, and they’ve issued an official press release confirming that decision

“Here we are. Now we can communicate that the Marinelli Snipers Team shall terminate the contract with the rider Romano Fenati, from now on, for his unsporting, dangerous and damaging conduct for the image of all. With extreme regret, we have to note that his irresponsible act endangered the life of another rider and can’t be apologized in no way. The rider, from this moment, will not participate anymore to a race with the Marinelli Snipers team. The team, Marinelli Cucine, Rivacold and all the other sponsors and the people that always supported him, apologized with all the World Championship fans”.

But Fenati’s action on track hasn’t only made him lose his 2018 ride!

Speaking about the incident, Giovanni Castiglioni, MV Agusta owner, has already taken actions against Romano Fenati, specifically because the Italian rider was supposed to be MV Agusta main rider in their return to Grand Prix racing next season.

Castiglioni has said in his official Instagram account that “this was the worst and saddest moment I’ve seen in a motorcycle race. A true sportsman wouldn’t behave like this. If I was Dorna, I would ban him from the world championship. As for his future contract with MV Agusta in Moto2, I’m opposing to it in every possible way, I’ll do whatever I can to stop it. It won’t happen. He doesn’t represent our company values”.

So, not only Romano Fenati has lost his current place at Marinelli Snipers, but at the moment he is out of the new Forward MV Agusta Moto2 team, and quite possibly Fenati will have a hard time finding someone willing to accept him on a team in the near future.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
