MotoGP – It’s official: Lorenzo joins Marquez in Repsol Honda!

MotoGP – It’s official: Lorenzo joins Marquez in Repsol Honda!

Not even 24 hours have passed since Honda Racing Corporation and Dani Pedrosa announced they would part ways after 18 years together, and now we get the official confirmation that the Japanese manufacturer has signed triple MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo!

In what we can consider to be a surprise move, Honda has created the basis to what many are calling a “super team”, with Lorenzo joining Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda squad for the next two seasons.

This announcement comes in the wake of Lorenzo’s first win on a Ducati bike, in Mugello this past weekend, with the Spanish rider becoming one of the few riders ever to achieve a win with two different bikes in the MotoGP era.

The HRC published this statement a few minutes ago

“Honda Racing Corporation is pleased to announce the signing of three-times MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo,” reads the statement. “The Spanish rider will join the Repsol Honda Team for the next two years. From 2019, Lorenzo will become team-mate to four-times MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez: two great champions with great talent and high hopes that will make a stronger team and contribute to the development of HRC”.

Those two great champions combined have won seven of the last eight world titles, the other going to another then-Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner in 2011.

Do you think Jorge Lorenzo will be able to work better and get the wins he needs with the Honda bike?

Do you believe he will have a good relationship with Marc Marquez now they will be sharing the same garage?

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
