Moto2 – Zulfahmi Khairuddin leaves SIC Racing Team

Moto2 – Zulfahmi Khairuddin leaves SIC Racing Team

Zulfahmi Khairuddin won’t be racing anymore with the SIC Racing Team in Moto2 World Championship

After just four round into the 2018 season, Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin has left the SIC Racing Team with immediate effect. This decision has come after both parts reach a mutual agreement.

Zulfahmi Khairuddin was brought to the team in the World Moto2 Championship after Hafizh Syahrin went to MotoGP at the beginning of the year, and he already had experience in Moto3 and also in World Supersport.

But the start of his career in Moto2 hasn’t been what Zulfahmi Khairuddin expected, and after not finishing the race at Jerez this past weekend, he decided to quit

“After the last race in Jerez, I find it very difficult for me to make any sort of improvement in my results since the start of the season. After careful thought and deep discussion with the team, I decided that it was best for me to end my Moto2 career”, says Zulfahmi Khairuddin. “I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to those involved, especially to SIC Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Razlan Razali and team manager Johan Stigefelt for their trust in giving me a chance to compete in the Moto2 championship. I am very sorry to the team and sponsors if this decision has come in an abrupt way”.

The now former SIC Racing Team rider will continue to work with in the “Impian ke MotoGP” programme for young talents, a project that is backed by the Sepang International Circuit. Zulfahmi Khairuddin will help the young talents to develop their skills, so they can eventually reach a World Championship in the future.

SIC Racing Team hasn’t said yet who will be the replacement rider for Zulfahmi Khairuddin, but the team will be making an announcement this week regarding that subject.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
