New KTM 1290 Super Duke GT expected early 2019

New KTM 1290 Super Duke GT expected early 2019

On the market since 2016, the current 1290 Super Duke GT (pictured above) will get a much needed makeover for 2019

The folks of KTM at Mattighofen, Austria, have been caught busy working on the next generation of the sport-tourer 1290 Super Duke GT, a motorcycle that reached the market in 2016 and since then has received just some small updates.

According to MotorcycleNews website, which released a set of spy photos of the 2019 KTM Super Duke GT prototype doing on road testing, and from what we can see from the photo, the major update will be bringing that front end more in line with the rest of the 1290 Super Duke family.

So, in 2019 the GT version of the Super Duke will have a new face, complete with that characteristic headlight including bright LED running lights that have become so familiar in KTM motorcycles.

In order to improve rider protection, and this is a motorcycle ready to hit the asphalt on big journeys, and doing it really fast, KTM engineers have come up with a total redesign of the radiator cowls now boasting a more aggressive design, which together with an adjustable windscreen should help improve aerodynamic protection a lot.

It’s pretty obvious that KTM won’t just do cosmetic changes, so the next generation of the 1290 Super Duke GT will have the latest specs in electronics, including the beautiful color TFT screen which we already know from the Super Duke R and Adventure models.

As for the engine, the V-twin unit is said to retain the 1301 cc displacement, but in order to be more competitive, KTM will introduce some updates that will make this GT even faster and ludicrous than it already is!

With the prototype version already in road testing phase, the production version should make its debut at the 2018 EICMA show in Milan, and beginning 2019 customers could see it at KTM dealerships.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
