We’ve heard of Yamaha motorcycles a whole lot but the brand is expanding its two-wheeler sector to include the pedal-powered bicycle world with an electric boost.
The four electric-assist bicycles will be made available in the US market around summer time. The range includes the CrossConnect, daily commuter bike; the CrossCore, a fitness bike; the UrbanRush, a road bike; and YDX-TORC, a mountain bike.
The bikes come with a 500-watt battery pack that manages to recharge itself within four hours. It also features an LCD screen that shows rolling speed, max speed, trip meter, odometer, range, battery capacity, and cadence. The bikes tackle speeds up to 20 mph.
“It’s a great case study in the way that electric can reinvigorate products that are becoming more stagnant,” Alta Motors co-founder and CPO Marc Fenigstein told Mashable regarding the growing sector of electric bikes. “It’s a fantastic story of enablement.”
“Electric means it is more accessible,” Fenigstein said. The light-duty vehicle market is expected to reach $125 billion by 2020, he said.
