The official distributor of Piaggio motorcycles in Malaysia, Naza Premira Sdn Bhd, has launched the new Piaggio Medley S 150 ABS scooter. “We are indeed very proud to launch the stylish Medley S to the local market. The new Medley is designed for those who need a modern-looking scooter for commuting,” commented Group Executive Chairman for the Naza World Group of Companies, Datuk Wira SM Faisal Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin, at the launch, which coincides with the opening of the Naza Merdeka Autofair 2017.

At the front, the Piaggio Medley S 150 ABS comes equipped with LED daytime running lights while the “tie” is designed to echo the current design language of Piaggio’s other products. The scooter is motivated by a liquid-cooled, 149cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine – with “Start & Stop” technology – that pumps out a total of 15 hp at 7,750 rpm and 14.4 Nm of torque at 6,400 rpm. Power gets shifted to the rear wheel via an automatic CVT.

Elsewhere, stopping power is provided by a 260mm disc with two-piston floating calliper up front and a 240mm disc with two-piston floating calliper out back. Dual-channel ABS comes standard. The Medley S 150 ABS also features aluminium 16” rims in front and a 14” rims at the rear shod with 100/80 and 110/80 tyres, respectively.

The front suspension features an 88mm stroke hydraulic telescopic fork setup while the rear sports a double “dual-effect” hydraulic shock absorber and coil springs that are adjustable to 5 positions for preload. For commuters of all shapes and sizes, one would be pleased to know that the quoted seat height is rated at a rider-friendly 799mm. Kerb weight is quoted at 132kg.

On the practical side of things, a glove compartment located within the frontal area opens up to reveal a USB port. Luggage capacity is rated at 36.2 litres that are claimed to “hold two flip-up helmets.” According to Piaggio, such space is the result of the repositioning of the fuel tank to the centre of the footboard. The fuel tank holds a maximum capacity of 7 litres, 1.5 of which is a reserve.

The Piaggio Medley S 150 ABS is priced at RM18,996.95 OTR (on-the-road) inclusive of GST. Service intervals are pegged at every 10,000 km and valve clearance is adjusted at every 20,000 km. As part of the Naza Merdeka Autofair 2017, the first 33 buyers will receive a rear carrier, top box, backrest, floor mat and complimentary two-year service in conjunction with the standard two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
