Alvaro Bautista landed at the World Superbike championship like a meteor, and since the start of the season, the Spaniard riding a Ducati Panigale V4 R for Aruba.it Ducati team has won all six races held until now this season. In Australia and Thailand, Bautista showed he is the strongest rider around on this championship, and his results have caught the attention of Chicho Lorenzo, Jorge Lorenzo’s father.
After Bautista blazing performance in Chang, Buriram, where the Ducati rider once again won all three races and also got the lap record under his name, Chicho Lorenzo used the social media to speak about the World Superbike rookie.
For Chicho Lorenzo, “In 2019 we’re clearly seeing the quality of a rider like Bautista. It’s true that moving away from MotoGP also might have given him that extra motivation he needed to reach its highest performance. I’m not surprised”, says Lorenzo’s father, before speaking about the level of riders in World Superbike: “For years now we’ve been getting evidence that the World Superbike level is very low, and I believe it’s good that we’re not questioning that anymore, and that everyone understands that this world championship really needs a generational change, because Alvaro Bautista has left everyone surprised”.
Without holding back on the words, Chicho Lorenzo also took the opportunity to give his opinion on the World Superbike championship, making a comparison with MotoGP: “I would really like to see the World SBK level to be the same as in MotoGP, but with bikes that are more similar to the ones on the road. That would lower the costs and allow more riders to show their potential without needing so much money, and that would, in turn, allow them to use the World Superbike championship as a way to get into MotoGP”.
Do you agree with Jorge Lorenzo’s father that the World Superbike level is lower than MotoGP?
