The speculation regarding Romano Fenati’s future has ended today, with the FIM announcing that they’ve decided to withdraw the racing license of the young Italian rider, after the incident in Misano. This decision is valid until the end of the current year (2018).
The former Moto2 rider was present at a meeting in Mies, Switzerland, at the FIM headquarter, where he explained his actions to FIM representatives in the presence of his own representative.
FIM representatives made sure to explain that they’ve got great concern for safety of all riders that participate in motorcycling competitions, while at the same time the FIM want’s everyone involved in racing to show great fair-play at all moments, something that clearly didn’t happen in Misano.
Without a racing license, Romano Fenati is now unable to rejoin the Moto2 championship at least until 2019, when he can apply for a new racing license with FIM, as long as he follows the FIM regulations.
This decision to “ban” Fenati until 2019 goes against what is the intention of Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna’s CEO.
As we said already, in the last few days Ezpeleta assured to Fenati’s family that a solution would be found for his future in the racing world, and rumours pointed to the possible return of the 22-year old to the Moto2 paddock in the Japan GP, in Motegi, though Ezpeleta still needed to find a team for him to race with, since Marinelli Snipers fired him.
