Passion for motorcycles keep Benzie County’s Kevin McLaughlin going!
Kevin McLaughlin has had a hard life but his love for motorcycling is what keeps him going!
“Growing up, I never really had the money for a bike that ran,” said McLaughlin.
McLaughlin had a hobby of taking up old bikes and repairing them and giving them a new life, causing him to grow his love for engineering of motorcycles. In fact, he was very immersed with the motorcycling culture. He loves riding his bike but also advocates safety.
In a nation where Harley-Davidson tops the notch of the industry, McLaughlin was slightly different and is more attracted to the Japanese and British machinery.
“I’m not a Harley guy,” he said. “I love my Japanese bikes.”
McLaughlin works with all brands of bikes and is currently helping a friend out in building a modern BMW racing bike that has broken off one of its cylinders.
He also wishes to bring his own projects back to road-ready condition and putting them up for sale. Making it to the list is the Yamaha XS 650 twin, a 1969 BSA chopper with an extended fork, a few Hondas and a renewed Kawaski 250 road bike.
Not to mention, “I love carburetors,” said McLaughlin, whom loves cruising in his 2005 Triumph Bonneville. He has also came up with a solution or the weak headlight on the bike.
“I like treating every bike like it was my own,” he said.
